Foodie or Cook - Food is that which matters!

Though I am not a foodie, I just loooovvvvveeeeee to cook and serve. I am not sure when I started to have this craving to step into the kingdom of cooking. Probably, it got kick-started in my school days with some snacks. Unlike most girls of my age, I did become a good cook by the time I stepped into my PG days. Cutlets being the favourite of the lot, I remember parceling it for my cousins and friends! Beets did make my cutlets stand out in taste and looks!

It used to give me goosebumps while looking at the dishes I made in those days. One reason is that I did not really focus just on the taste, I had my own (crazy) way of presenting the dishes while spreading it on the dining table. Just stuffing down something into the aesophagus, picking it from some plate/bowl/glass is not my kind of dealing with it. Even if it is a simple dish, I would love to place it on the plate/bowl/ tray beautifully before serving it. I would say – it is an art!

That is not all! Believe it or not, I won't allow anyone to touch it till that dish gets added to my FOODOGRAPHY folder! Coming from a photography background, I think I have the camera-eye for anything that looks good. This has actually given rise to a lot of conflicts in the past and the saga continues! It happens when people are so really hungry and I would make them wait for me to capture those delicacies with the click of my shutters!

Sanks mostly gets into a verbal battle with me for this difficult trait in me! Considering his love for mom-cooked food, I sometimes make amends, but not always! And, I would make sure it is captured in the way I wanted! I have my ways in everything I do and this is no different. Though it may sound like adamancy, it is not adamancy; it is just the yearning for doing what you think is good for your SOUL!

My culinary skills have gone up the ladder with the years of trial and error runs! There are things that I would say is important while we cook – it is not just enough that we have all the ingredients or the best brands in the right proportion before us - it is not enough that we have the best modular kitchen with the modern utensils – it is not enough that we have a highly–priced cooking range, but you do need the right frame of mind and passion for making a dish that would melt down your mouth!

Though I would say I am a fan of simple, traditional Kerala cuisine, I don’t mind trying out anything that excites the cook in me! Isn’t it pure joy to look at people’s expressions while enjoying the food that we made? I don't think God entrusted the 'duty of cooking' to women, but if a woman loves the art of cooking, it does wonders indeed!

Yesssssss!
Good homemade food is an emotion – you may enjoy hotel food now and then, but the love and care that gets mixed with the food we make stands out in myriad ways!!!It is pure bliss to hear your people telling you they prefer your food to hotel food!
